Batting practice takes place every morning at Spectrum Field the rest of spring training whether it is a home game or a road game. When the team is on the road, those not on the travel roster will get to hit and then call it an early day. Exceptions are rainy days and March 6 which is a day off.

Every morning Pete Mackanin and his staff receive an e-mail from Joe Cynar, Assistant Director, Minor League Operations/Florida. Joe lets them know which minor league players from the complex are being assigned to the major league game. Every Phillies player, majors or minors, wears a red jersey in spring training with a name and number. So, any player brought over from the minor league camp is in uniform.

Today’s additions: #89, RHP Mark Leiter Jr.; #98, RHP Miguel Nunez; #95, RHP Tyler Viza.

My First Spring Training
Scott Franzke, Phillies radio voice
“As far as my first big league camp, 2002 with the Rangers, their last spring in Port Charlotte. I did the pre- and post-game show on KRLD radio and was a fill-in play-by-play announcer. My first broadcast ever was the Phillies and Rangers. Vincente Padilla started for the Phillies.”

Camp Nuggets
Five weeks from today is the season opener in Cincinnati. 62 players today needs to be reduced to 25 by then.

Players in the minor league camp will work out for the first time on Sunday. Physicals will take place Friday and Saturday. Workouts are open to fans except on days when there is a game at Spectrum Field.

Two birthday cakes today, Matt Stairs with 49 candles; Adam Morgan, just 27.

FOX/FS1 are in camp today for tapings.

B. A. T. (Baseball Assistance Team) met with the players at 9 this morning. That organization provides financial assistance to anyone who worked in the game who needs help.
