Crawford, Walding heating up; complete minor league report

A pair of left-handed hitting infielders who have been struggling at bat are heating up.

Shortstop J.P. Crawford, the 22-year-old who was the Phillies first selection in 2013, is on his best tear after recently missed eight games with a groin injury. He returned on June 20. With three hits last night, Crawford extended his hitting streak to six games (10–29), .345 with four extra base hits and six RBI. The streak lifted his average to a season-high .209.

3B Mitch Walding belted two homers and drove in three runs for Reading, giving him 12 homers among 22 hits this month (four times he’s gone deep twice in a game). He’s hitting .306 in June, raising his average to a season-high .223. Since moving up from Clearwater last July 31, he has 19 homers in 80 double-A games. Walding was a fifth-round selection in 2011.
