More Oddities Than Runs

Last night’s marathon ended with more oddities than runs.

Ryan went deep leading off the second inning, ending a scoreless streak of 22 innings. Then, no runs until Ryan’s two-out, walk-off single in the 15th inning.

Howard now has 28 RBIs in extra innings since he entered the league in 2004. Only one major-league player has driven in more runs beyond the ninth inning than Howard, Albert Pujols (29). (Elias Sports Bureau).

KK started and turned in an outing that nearly matched his first start back on April 2. Then he worked 7 innings, allowed 5 hits, 1 run, walked 1 and struck out 4. The only different number last night, 3 strikeouts.

Giles, Pap and Jake tossed 3 scoreless innings (8th, 9th, 10th) but needed 80 pitches. Houston’s bullpen used 37 pitches for the same scoreless innings.

Antonio walked 1 in 2 innings and struck out 6. It took him 30 pitches.

Hector Neris, making his major league debut in the 15th, picked up the win, 9 pitches, 8 for strikes.

Seven Phillies relievers combined for 144 pitches, 1 hit, 14 strikeouts in 8 innings.

Phillies pitchers threw 234 pitches, Houston, one fewer.

It was the Phillies fifth game of at least 14 innings, matching the club record of 1958.

And, it was the Phillies first interleague win since the season opener in Texas on March 31. They had lost 8 games in a row, 1 shy of the club record set in 1997.

Lehigh Valley lost, 8-5, to Durham. SS Freddy Galvis, 4 H, including 1st HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, SB. DH Russ Canzler (10th HR). 2B Cesar Hernandez and 3B Maikel Franco, 2 hits each.

Reading won, 3-2, over Harrisburg. WP: Hobby Milner (7-5). LF Zach Collier, 7th HR, 5 in last 4 games. 2B Albert Cartwright, 2b, RBI, 22nd-23rd SB.

Clearwater lost, 3-1, to Daytona; held to 5 singles, 2 by 1B Art Charles. CF Ramon Quinn reached base for the 20th straight game.

Lakewood lost, 8-1, to Asheville; 4 hits, 2 by Willians Astudillo. Attendance: 5,307, exact same total as Reading.

Williamsport was not scheduled. OF Jiandido Tromp’s 12 HR are 1 shy of the club record shared by Zach Green and Walter Young.

Gulf Coast League Phillies won 4th in a row, 7-4, over Braves. 2B Olvy Marte, 3 H, 2 RBI, 2 R. 3B Tim Zier, 2 H, lifting average to .370.
