Mets Get A.J. Early

BurnettHamels19657
A crooked number in the first inning off A.J. is all the Mets needed in beating the Phillies last night, 7-1. That crooked number? Four.

When you look at the line score, the Phillies out-hit the Mets, 13-9, but NY had more extra-base hits, 5-2. The Phillies had the most LOB, 12-5. Therein lies the story. 40th time the Phillies have scored two or fewer runs in 106 games.

OK, Cole is hot, three wins in a row, stingy as can be. How stingy? Try three earned runs in 21.2 innings during the winning streak. He’s on the mound tonight in game two. But, the Mets have his number, 13-7. Gee. That’s who’s facing Cole. Who? No, he’s on first.

Number of the Day
8: Mets wins in 11 games against the Phillies this season.

Trade Deadline
In case you just returned to earth after three months in outer space you need to know baseball’s trade deadline ends at 4 p.m. this Thursday. Trade deadlines in other sports come and go without a whisper. Not in baseball.

The rumor mill is running on all cylinders. Twitters are tweeting at dizzying paces. Such is the world of social media.

Which raises the question: is there such a thing as unsocial media? Plenty.

I have been a Phillies since I was old enough to go see them in Connie Mach Stadium, I can still remember Johnny Calison,Jim Gunning, just to name a few! I now live in Indiana but will die a Phillie Phanatic and love this team!! What I can’t understand and it was the same with Charlie, why would you not go into the ninth inning with the pitcher who got you there and was pitching the best i’ve seen him pitch lately, why not give him a chance with a 6 run lead???? I hope I finally got that out of my system, GO PHILLIES:-) Thanks for listening! CHUCKWAGON
