Just Enough Runs
The 3-run rut that has plagued the Phillies all season was enough for Cole to get his first win since June 6 last night in Milwaukee.
Scoring three or fewer runs, the Phillies had lost their last 14 such games and were 7-38 for the season. They had also lost six in a row to the Brewers. Chase’s two-run homer in the first and Ryan’s RBI single in the third was the offense for the night. But, Cole, Ken and Pap made it stand up.
From Elias Sports Bureau: Hamels is the first Phillies pitcher since the National League began recording earned runs in 1912 to win no more than three of his first 15 starts of a season despite an ERA under 3.00.
Number of the Day
9: Phillies wins vs. the NL Central against 14 losses. All 3 of Cole’s wins have come against this division.
