At the bottom of page one of the daily game notes provided by the Baseball Communications Department is a bunch of numbers capturing the Phillies in 24 different categories. Among those is their won-loss record when scoring three or fewer runs: 7-32. More than three, 28-11.
32nd loss came last night, a 3-2 loss, getting one double and six singles. A.J. pitched well, allowing all three runs in the fourth inning after a misplayed liner in left by Domonic, who later drove in the Phillies final run with a single.
The Phillies have struggled at home this season (17-23). There are more numbers on page one that tell the story. Going into the game, the Phillies were hitting .228 at home, starting pitchers had a 3.27 ERA and relievers, 3.14. Simple analysis: the offense is not producing. Further testimony, in their last five games, the Phillies have scored 13 runs, seven coming Tuesday night when an error and two wild pitches by the Marlins produced three of the runs.
Number of the Day
17: consecutive scoreless outings by Mario, the most ever for a Phillies rookie reliever. Previous mark is 14 set by Dick Farrell in 1957 and matched last season by B.J.
Tweet of the Day
Curt Schilling: “As of yesterday I am in remission. Start the 5-year clock!”
