57-Inning Series is History

The marathon Mets series is over…finally. The five-game series literally turned into six games when you take into account back-to-back 14-innng games and one that took 11 innings.

Here’s a statistical summary:
20 hours, 36 minutes: how long it took to play five games.
45: total number of runs
45: appearances by relievers
52: walks, 33 by Phillies pitchers
57: innings
113: strikeouts
1,856: pitches thrown

Each team used roster moves to bring two fresh pitchers to the series.

Mets won the series, 4-1, despite hitting .219 with runners in scoring position while the Phillies batted .281 in that area and out-homered NY, 5-4.

Mets return for their last four games at Citizens Bank Park this season, August 8-11, Alumni Weekend.
