If KK was going to break his personal 9-game losing streak, it would come against the Marlins. After all, he’d won 10 in row over Miami, longest streak by any current pitcher against one team. Well, the 10-winning streak ended but the losing streak reached 10 games (16 starts) last night.

Matt Beech lost 11 straight, 8/13/96-8/2/97. Club record for consecutive losses is 12 shared by Russ Miller (1928), Hugh Mulcahy (1940) and Ken Reynolds (1972).

Rubber game of the series, 12:40 this afternoon.

Catching Whitey
J-Roll tied Richie Ashburn (photo above, courtesy National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum) for second place on the club’s all-time list for hits. Whitey broke Ed Delahanty’s 58-year-old record (2,211) on September 19, 1959 with a seventh-inning single off the first base bag in a 9-3 loss to the Milwaukee Braves at Connie Mack Stadium.  At the end of that season, Ashburn’s final one with the Phillies, he had 2,217 hits.  Mike Schmidt broke Ashburn’s record 30 years later.

Tweet of the Day
Jayson Stark, ESPN.com: “Kind of cool that Jimmy Rollins is going to pass Richie Ashburn in Phillies hits & Dick Allen in Phillies HRs in the same week.”

Number of the Day
