#1 as a player and #1 in the hearts of millions of Phillies fans was Richie Ashburn. He wore that number for 12 seasons. The Phillies retired #1 in 1979. Only 15 different players wore this number in Phillies history with CF Kiddo Davis being the first in 1932. Among Phillies managers who wore #1: Doc Prothro, Hans Lobert, George Myatt (interim) and Frank Lucchesi.
