An all-too familiar pattern last night at Citizens Bank Park. Cole pitches well, offense can’t get out of low gear and the bullpen implodes (three runs, three walks, two innings, one hit) resulting in another loss.
In Cole’s last seven starts, he has a 2.16 ERA but only a 2-2 record. His last win came July 9. When the season began, he was nine wins shy of becoming the seventh Phillies pitcher to win 100 or more games. Who would have ever thought it might not happen until 2014?
Series finale is Thursday afternoon as the Phillies try to win a series for the first time since July 8-9-10 vs. Washington. That’s where Phillies head after the game.
