“Hittin’ season.” That’s what Charlie calls it when the weather warms up.
Domonic is more than warm, he’s hot. Two more home runs, the second (eighth inning) proved to be the game-winner when Pap gave up a run in the 9th, the second run he’s allowed this season. The other run came in his first outing, April 4. Save was his 17th in a row, dating back to last season.
This month, Domonic has hit 10 home runs. Phillies record for May is 15 set by CF Cy Williams 90 years ago. Chances are Williams’ record is safe for another season.
Phillies hit season-high four homers (all solo) in the first game of the “hittin’ season.” Of their last 32 home runs, 30 have come with the bases empty.
From Elias Sports Bureau: It was only the second time in Phillies history that they scored at least four runs in a one-run victory in which all of its scoring came via solo home runs. The first came on Sept. 1, 1964, 4-3 home win over the Houston Colt 45s. Dick Allen, Johnny Callison, Wes Covington, and Frank Thomas provided the scoring in that game.
