On To Phoenix

Sweeping a three-game series on the road is difficult. Yes, the Phillies did it in New York during the last weekend in April. Not to pick on the Mets, but the Giants are a different story.

The Phillies fought back to tie with two in the ninth and then lost in the 10th. For the Giants, it was their fifth walk-off win out of 12 wins at AT&T Park. A win would have given the Phils their first three-game sweep in SF since May 18-20, 1984, at Candlestick Park.

Scene shifts to Chase Field in Phoenix for four games that will end this current western trip. Overall, the Phillies are 53-50 vs. the Diamondbacks. Arizona has a 28-22 edge at home. The Diamondbacks are the best defensive team in the NL, seven errors in their first 33 games.

Thursday night’s game will be Charlie’s, 1,332nd as Phillies manager, putting him ahead of Gene Mauch. Between the two, the Phillies have had 15 different managers, including those with the interim tag.

A week from tonight is the annual Phillies Phestival that benefits ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease. Tickets are still available.

Stop by every rolls a winner and saw hello. That’s my duty that night.
