The Phillies returned home after Sunday’s game for a 10-game homestand that begins with seven games against the two best teams in the majors, the new Big Red Machine and the East-leading Nationals.
For the first time this season, the Phillies and Reds meet, a four-game series that starts tonight. The Phillies will visit Cincinnati for three in September.
The Reds lost reigning MVP Joey Votto on July 15 and haven’t skipped a beat, going 24-10 without him. That includes a five-game losing streak.
Despite losing Votto, the Reds have been one of the healthier teams. They’ve used 33 players this season, fewest in the majors. They’ve had only six different starting pitchers. The needed a sixth starter for the first time last week.
The Phillies have won six in a row against them from last season’s 7-1 domination. At Citizens Bank Park, the Reds are 9-20.
