Another Tough Extra-Inning Loss

Two of out three is a must as the Phillies climb a steep mountain the rest of the way.  Yet, settling for two of three is shallow when you have a chance to sweep, something the Phillies haven’t done this year.  Yep, no three-game sweeps so far.

A Cliff-Kershaw pitching duel loomed and was exactly that.  Cliff was outstanding, 89-pitches, two hits over eight innings.

One out away from that sweep, a bloop and two infield singles score two to tie in the last of the ninth.  Perhaps the baseball gods were getting even for the Phillies two  runs in the top that inning, three walks and Hunter’s two-run single.

So, a seven-game winning streak in Dodger Stadium goes out the window in extra innings.  Phillies have eight, extra-inning walk-off losses, tough to take.

Today is a day off before the pitching-tough, first-place Giants come to town for three this weekend.
