Back Home

Rainy, damp and cold day at Citizens Bank Park.  Good there’s no game scheduled for tonight.  Team arrived home around 3 this morning to 41 degree temperatures. Game time in LA yesterday was 93.

Both teams have scheduled workouts for the afternoon. Managers and starting pitchers for game 3 will be available in the interview room.

Game 2 recap
Postseason nail-biters continued yesterday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.  This time, the Phillies were on the short end of a one-run decision.  Pedro was magnificent with seven shutout innings.   Fateful eighth told the story: three LA hits plus two walks and an error led to two LA runs off five Phillies relievers (31 pitches). The nightmare half-inning took 28minutes.

Got to give credit to Padilla.  The former Phil silenced the Phillies bats in 7.1 innings, allowing one run on Howard’s towering drive into the left field bleachers.  Howard had half of his team’s four hits.

Howard’s driven in a run in six straight postseason games, matching Bernie Williams and Pudge Rodriquez for second place in baseball history.  The great Lou Gehrig holds the record, eight straight games.

Howard has now reached base in 15 consecutive postseason games.  He has 15 hits in postseason road games over the last three seasons, best among all NL players.

Scouting the AL
Phillies have five scouts following the Angels-Yankees ALCS: Chuck LaMar, Charley Kerfeld, Gordon Lakey, Howie Freiling and Tim Kissner.

Ceremonial first balls
Darren Daulton will throw out the ceremonial first ball tomorrow night; teammate Mickey Morandini will have the honor on Monday night.  Dallas Green is scheduled for Game 5 on Wednesday night.
