Another nail-biter

Got to love those three-run homers.  Ruiz and Raul did the damage as the Phillies took game one.  LA lefty George Sherrill had given up two runs in 30 appearances after joining the Dodgers on July 30.  Left-handed hitters batted .128 with no homer in last 141 at-bats over two seasons. Raul took care of that hitting the first pitch he saw from his former teammate in Seattle.  It turned out to be the game-winning blow.

Brad gets the save but Chan Ho should also get a save for his outing.  He was really sharp.  Madson got himself in a jam but also pitched out of it.

Numbers
Phillies are 14-4 in their last 18 NLCS games.  Under Charlie, they are 15-7 in the playoffs.  Road record this year: 3-0.

Postseason Memories
A first baseman, Ricky Jordan played for the Phillies from 1988 through 1994.  He also played for the Mariners in 1996.  His postseason experience was 1993, the NLCS vs. Atlanta and WS vs. Toronto.  He led the club with 16 pinch hits in ’93.  The 44-year-old resides in northern California.

What is your favorite memory of October baseball as a child?
“Watching Reggie Jackson hit home runs for the Yankees back in the 70’s and becoming known as Mr. October.”

As a player, what was the biggest change between the regular season and postseason?
“Having to rise to a different level, because more media and fans would be watching you on a bigger stage with more at stake.”

What is your fondest personal postseason memory?
“Being in the starting lineup as the DH for the first World Series game back in 1993 against Toronto.  As far as the fondest team memory, beating the Braves that year.”

Where were you when the Phillies won the World Series last October?
“Well, I was back at home in California.  After being at Citizens Bank Park for Game 3 and part of 4, I returned home because Game 4 got postponed for a couple of days because of bad weather.  My Bad.”

Postseason History
Phillies are 0-2 on this date, losing the 1983 World Series to the Orioles and losing the first game of the WS in Toronto 10 years later.

Between the lack of sleep with the late games and stress from all the ups and downs, someone may have to resuscitate me after the heart failure. I must be getting old… ;O)
