On DL (6/15-8/8) at Reading with left shoulder inflammation . . . FSL in-season All-Star . . . Phillies minor league pitcher of the month (April) . . . Pitched in Dominican Winter League, 2-0, 2.63, 8 starts.

Scouting Report: “Lefty with lots of potential.  Fastball has a lot of late life, projected as a plus pitch.  Slider is making progress.  Needs to build confidence in secondary pitches.  Could be a starter or situational pitcher in the pen.”

Diekman, Jacob . . . B-T: L-L . . . 6-4, 189 . . . 22 . . . Wymore, NE . . . Selected in 30th round, 2007, out of Cloud County (KS) CC ; signed by Jerry Lafferty . . . Two-year pro . . . Split season between Lakewood (3-5, 5.42) and Williamsport (1-4, 4.40); combined 4-9, 5.09, 27 starts.

Scouting Report: “Average fast ball now.  Can show a plus fastball when he stays hind the ball and finishes his delivery.  Starting to mature as a pitcher.  Very aggressive on the mound.  Needs experience and innings.”

Flande, Yohan . . . B-T: L-L . . . 6-2, 180 . . . 23 . . . Cruce de Pavon, DR . . . Signed as an amateur free agent, 12/13/04, by Wil Tejeda . . . Four-year pro . . . Pitched in the states for the first time with Gulf Coast League Phillies, 4-1, 2.19, 10 games (9 starts); opponents batted .200.

Scouting Report: “Command of 3 pitches with feel for the strike zone.  Durable arm with consistent action.  Learned how to pitch inside with his fast ball, making his off speed pitches more effective.”

Happ, J.A. . . . B-T: L-L . . . 6-6, 200 . . . 26 . . . Peru, IL . . . Selected in the 3rd round, 2004, out of Northwestern U.; signed by Bob Szymkowski . . . Five-year pro . . . Pitched at Lehigh Valley, 8-7, 3.60, 24 games (23 starts) and was 1-0, 3.69, 8 games (4 starts) with Phillies.  At LV, he fanned 151 in 135 IP . . . Phillies minor league pitcher of the month (June) . . . Paul Owens Award winner last year as best pitcher in Phillies minor league system . . . Ranked #9 in Phillies minor league system by Baseball America.

Scouting Report: “Has shown much improvement from ’07.  Deceptive fastball.  Hides the ball well.  Will pitch inside. Cutter is an improved pitch and he uses it as his breaking pitch.  Throws it to LH and RH hitters. Good mount presence.”

Savery, Joe . . . B-T: L-L . . . 6-3, 215 . . . 23 . . . Bellaire, TX . . . Selected in 1st round, 2007, out Rice U.; signed by Steve Cohen  . . . Second-year pro . . . Spent first full season in minors at Clearwater, 9-10, 4.13 (27 games, 24 starts). Hit .231 in 13 a-bats.

Scouting Report: “Good pitcher’s body with strong lower half. Ran out of gas toward the end of the year but never missed a start or throwing on the side. Command, change and slider all improved over the course of the year. Does not shy away from hard work.”
