Brummett, Tyson . . . B-T: R-R . . . 6-2, 180 . . . 24 years old . . . Resides: Salem, UT . . . Selected in 7th round, 2007, out of UCLA; signed by Tim Kissner . . . Second year pro . . . Pitched at Lakewood (3-0), Clearwater (2-3) and Reading(2-9); combined for 7-12 record, 4.98 ERA for 28 starts . . . Led Phillies minor league system with 170 IP . . . Also pitched in AFL, 0-2, 6.23, 12 games (1 start).

Scouting Report: “Tall and lean.  Shows 4 quality pitches he can throw in any count. Curve has a 12-6 rotation. Works fast, sometimes too fast. Good job of controlling the running game.  Competitor with feisty attitude.”

Byrd, Darren . . . B-T: R-R . . . 6-5, 175 . . . 22 . . . Cantomont, FL . . . Selected in 18th round, 2005, out of Pine Forest (FL) HS; signed by Chip Lawrence . . . Four-year pro . . . Started at Lakewood (1-1), advanced to Clearwater (4-8); combined 5-9, 4.33 for 24 games (23 starts).

Scouting Report: “Fast ball has some late life at times with decent command.  Slider improved this year becoming a good pitch.  Change improved in second half. Overall, showed improvement in the second half.  Willing worker.”

Carpenter, Andrew . . . B-T: R-R . . . 6-3, 225 . . . 23 . . . Vacaville, CA . . . Selected in 2nd round, 2006, out of Long Beach State; signed by Tim Kissner . . . Three-year pro . . . Pitched in A, AA, AAA and majors (1 inning for Phillies); combined minor league numbers: 9-12, 4.59 for 25 starts . . . Also pitched in AFL, 1-2, 5.88 in 7 starts.

Scouting Report: “Can throw any one of 4 pitches for strikes. Splitter is his out pitch. Can control the running game; good fielder.  Made a remarkable turn around after slow start.”

Carrasco, Carlos . . . B-T: R-R . . . 6-3, 215 . . . 21 . . . Barquisimeto, VZ . . . Signed as an amateur free agent at age 16 by Sal Agostinelli . . .  Five-year pro . . . Split last season between Reading (7-7) and Lehigh Valley (2-2); combined 9-9, 3.69 for 26 games, 156 SO in 151.1 IP . . . Mid-season EL All-Star . . . Pitched for World Team in Futures Game . . . Also pitched in Venezuela Winter League, 3-0, 2.11 ERA, 11 starts . . . Ranked as #2 prospect in Phillies system by Baseball America.

Scouting Report: “Pure stuff with a fastball that sits at 91-94 with late life.  Change has depth and fades.  Curve is developing.  More consistent in the strike zone in AAA.  Needs to continue to work on command.”

Chapman, Chance . . . B-T: S-R . . . 6-4, 210 . . . 24 . . . Paso Robles, CA . . . Selected in 8th round, 2007, out of Oral Roberts University; signed by Paul Scott . . . Second-year pro . . . Spent season at Lakewood, 7-7, 2.98 for 26 games (23 starts); 118 SO, 37 BB in 139 IP.

Scouting Report: “Good, heavy sinking fast ball.  Slider has good late tilt; change, average at times.  Pitches to his strengths.  Can be a solid reliever or spot starter.”

Cisco, Mike . . . B-T: R-R . . . 5-11, 195 . . . 21 . . . Mt. Pleasant, SC . . . Selected in 36th round, 2008, out of the University of South Carolina; signed by Roy Tanner . . . First-year pro . . . Began pro career at Williamsport (1-0) and promoted to Lakewood (2-1); combined 3-1, 0.99 for 17 games (7 starts), 5 BB, 52 SO, 54.1 IP; held opponents to .198 average . . . Grandson of Galen Cisco, former Phillies pitching coach.

Scouting Report: “Very good command with a very good idea of what he is doing.  Intelligent young pitcher that should grow into a sold reliever in the majors.”

Thanks for posting this…it is great to see that our scouts look at personality as well as skill. I think that attitude can be just as important as talent. Great info!
