August Already

August 1, 2007

Hard to believe but August 1 is here already.  Two more months to go.  Hopefully, the Phillies can match their August-September record of a year ago: 36-21.

NL East should really be a dog fight between the Mets, Phils and Braves.  Granted every game counts, no matter the enemy.  But looking at the East, the Phillies have six home games with the Braves and three in Atlanta; four at Citizens Bank Park vs. the Mets and three in New York.  Going nose-to-nose is when ground can be gained or lost.

Here and There
RHP Kyle Loshe, wearing # 37, makes his Phillie debut in the series finale tomorrow afternoon . . . Chase Utley began talking ground balls yesterday in Wrigley Field.  He fielded balls with his glove hand and then shoveled them from his glove to a nearby coach . . . Jayson Werth returns to the active roster tonight.  Chris Roberson, a switch-hitter, is in right field again tonight . . . Word out of Williamsport is that No. 1 pick, LHP Joe Savery, will make his pro debut on Sunday night (6:05) at Bowman Field against Batavia . . . John Vukovich would have turned 60 yesterday.

ESPN Night Game
If you are not aware, ESPN has chosen Sunday, August 12, as an 8:05 Sunday night telecast.  Braves and Phillies match-up has national appeal.

A reader wanted to know how ESPN can change game times.

Because of contractual agreements with Major League Baseball, ESPN and FOX, the starting times of televised games are tentative and subject to change.  Time changes can potentially occur up to seven days prior to a scheduled game date.

ESPN had four potential Sunday night games involving the Phillies, June 3 (Giants), July 1 (at Mets), August 12 and August 26 (Padres).  The network chose June 3 and August 12 with the 26th of this month to be determined.

FOX does Saturday telecasts, which can affect the starting time of games on those days.
