Minor League Notes

Players of the Week (May 29-June 4)
Pitcher: RHP Scott Mathieson, Reading Phillies.  Went 1-0 for 1 start, 7 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 11 strikeouts.  He has allowed 1 run in his last 3 starts (20.1 IP). Mathieson, 22, was selected by the Phillies in the 2002 June draft out Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Player: 3B Joey Hammond, Reading Phillies.  Hit .423 in 7 games last week with 11 hits.  He’s currently on a 10-game hitting streak (.447). Hammond, 28, was signed as a minor league free agent last fall.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons
Began the week with 4 straight losses before winning the last 2 by the same 3-1 score. . . RH reliever Ryan Cameron picked up saves in both wins . . . LHP Brian Mazone won on Saturday, allowing a 1st inning run in his 6.1 IP . . . RHP Seung Hak Lee improved to 5-4 on Sunday, also allowing a first inning run in 6 IP.

Reading Phillies
4-2 week, also winning the last 2 . . . RHP Zack Segovia was a 3-1 winner on Tuesday and had a no decision in 7-6 win on Sunday. Combined with Clearwater, he is 7-2 for the season . . . RHP Scott Mathieson tied his season high with 11 strikeouts in 7 IP on Wednesday.  His 83 strikeouts lead the Eastern League and are third in all of the minors . . . LHP Daniel Haigwood (1-3) lost, 1-0 on Thursday.  He had a no-hitter for 5.2 innings before giving up a solo home run, one of 2 hits in 7 innings . . . CF Michael Bourn hit .333 for the week; scoring 8 runs.  He has scored in 9 of the last 10 games and leads the EL with 44 runs . . . LF Gary Burnham hit .435 for the week and had 4 doubles on Saturday.

Clearwater Threshers
3-3 for the week . . . RHP Kyle Kendrick, LHP Derek Griffith and RHP Andrew Baldwin picked up the wins . . . Baldwin lost a no-hitter after 6.1 innings on Tuesday and dropped a 4-2 decision at Dunedin; he closed out the week with a 5-4 win on Sunday, 10 strikeouts in 7 IP . . . Griffith allowed 4 hits in 7 innings on Friday, getting 11 ground ball outs with his sinker . . . Griffith, LHP James Happ, RHP Joe Bisenius, 2B Peeter Ramos and 3B Mike Costanzo were selected to the Florida State League All-Star Game that will be played June 17 at Lakeland . . . RHP Nathan Johnson (2-1, 1.23 ERA, 18 games) was promoted to Reading . . . CF Brian Burgamy had reached base in 28 straight games; he played in only 3 games during the week, hitting .583 (7-12) . . . Other hot hitters: C Tuffy Gosewisch (.368) and DH Branden Florence (.348).

Lakewood BlueClaws
2-4 for the week . . . RH reliever Andrew Barb threw 3 scoreless innings in picking up a 3-2 win on Saturday . . . RHP Carlos Carrasco gave up 1 unearned run in 7 innings in a 2-1 win on Sunday . . . LHP Matt Maloney leads the South Atlanta League with 80 strikeouts; Carrasco’s 73 are tied for second . . . CF Greg Golson hit ..308 for the week . . . SS Fidel Hernandez had an 11-game hitting streak stopped on Thursday; he’s hit in 13 of his last 15 games, boosting his average from .208 to .285.
